On giant maps, there is so much land that tense borders takes time to happen, or dont even happen, these can go without war for quite some time, or maybe never.Īlso ranged units are powerful enough to fend off pretty much anything, if in doubt make ranged units, save some gold to upgrade them for next tech if war is very close and you dont have time to produce some new ones. You cant avoid war if you dont have a good army, and you will not be able to avoid war against certain civs as neighbours, like oda, catherine, montezuma, those will declare war on you with or without a good army on their side. To get your neighbors with pants down, spread some scouts near their frontiers, and watch if they start to move lots of units towards you, if you note lots of units leaving their frontiers, a war is coming.Īt that moment, make sure you have money to buy walls and some archers and cavalry, they will throw everything they have at you, thats the first test of fire you have to survive, you will be successful if u have goten the uper hand, is now sieging the enemy and can ask for a fat peace treaty. Neighbors will eventually declare war at you, unless you are powerful enough to keep it in a stand still, they will then eventually get annoyed with you.
